Our first show was held at Llama Magic at Sutton NSW. This
venue was chosen because we hoped those who either did not have llamas, whose
llamas had never been exposed to the show ring, or were too far away to travel
to the show, would hire llamas to show for the day. This
opportunity was taken up by several people.
The day before the show we had the offer of a presentation about fleece and
fleece testing by Paul Vallely of Australian Alpaca Fleece Testing.
Paul’s talk was very interesting, not to mention enlightening and
inspiring.
The following talk was by Bruce Patterson about how best to show your llama, and
what was necessary to enter your llama in a show, prepare him to best advantage,
and basic ring craft. Bruce is a great educator, as well as a very experienced
judge of a variety of livestock. Thanks to Bruce for being
so helpful and encouraging to all the llamas & their handlers.
Next came the conformation classes (results below).
Unfortunately as a result of the fleece talk, we did not have time for the best
handler, progeny classes or the novelty classes.
Thanks to Jennie Curtis for designing a simple, but challenging course for our
llamas and handlers. Also thanks to those who set up the
obstacle course - Jennie, husband Chris, Ann Levien, Maggie Moore & Trudy Weers.
Only one animal was disqualified for her naughty behavior in the
“deadfall”- Donkey Istata (who believed that (because her foster mother is a
llama) should be entitled to enter! Thanks to Anna
Bloomfield, who is one of our newest members, for taking the Donkey Istata
through the obstacle course! (By the way Anna’s own llama,
Llama Magic Carmen, trained by Anna, went through the course very well).
